What is LASIK eye surgery?

LASIK eye surgery actually stands for Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. LASIK is a refractive eye surgery procedure where a laser reshapes the outer surface of the eye known as the cornea. By changing the shape of the cornea doctors can improve vision.

What is a Cataract?

A cataract is a cloudy or opaque area in the normally transparent lens of the eye. As the opacity thickens, it prevents light rays from passing through the lens and focusing on the retina, the light sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye. Early lens changes or opacities may not disturb vision. But as the lens continues to change, several specific symptoms including blurred vision; sensitivity to light and glare; increased nearsightedness; or distorted images in either eye, may develop.

Eyelid Reconstructive Surgery

Eye Lid Cancers

The most common cancer to effect the eye lid is basal cell carcinoma.  This type of cancer is caused primarily by ultraviolet light exposure. Most cancers of the eyelid are easily treatable when identified and treated early.

Oculoplastic surgeons are uniquely trained to reconstruct the eyelid after it has been affected by cancer. Our goal is to provide a complete cure of the disease and repair the eyelid in the most aesthetically pleasing manner possible.

If you are concerned about a bump on your eyelid or a raised, irregular lesion appears, call our office for an examination.

Ocular Trauma

Ocular trauma is another specialty that our oculoplastic surgeon handles. Many incidences can cause trauma to the structure of the eye.  Your surgeon has special training to repair the orbital structure and eyelid so they look as aesthetically correct as possible.

Orbital Disease

Orbital diseases are uncommon and are best managed by experts in this complex anatomical location.  Oculoplastic surgeons are the recognized experts in orbital disease.  Benign and malignant tumors of the orbit can be asymptomatic or life-threatening.  Space-occupying lesions of the orbit require careful assessment and usually require an orbital CT scan.

In order to establish a diagnosis, an excision of the lesion or a biopsy is often necessary.  Over 50% of orbital tumors turn out to be benign. If cancer is present in the orbit, medical management usually is necessary following surgery
