But as the lens continues to change, several specific symptoms including blurred vision; sensitivity to light and glare; increased nearsightedness; or distorted images in either eye, may develop.

Your Cataract Surgery
To treat your cataract, the cloudy lens must be removed and replaced with a new, clear artificial lens. At Raleigh Ophthalmology we use the latest advancements in cataract removal. This technology is called phacoemulsification, or phaco. In phaco surgery, a small ultrasonic probe is inserted into the eye. This probe breaks (emulsifies) the cloudy lens into tiny pieces and gently washed out. This lens is then replaced with a clear man-made one. This lens will replace your natural lens and stay in place inside your eye, providing you with clear vision after the procedure. You will not be able to feel or sense the implanted lens in any way. Once the new lens is inserted, it opens up like a flower when inside. No stitches are used and the incision is self healing.
It is important that you discuss your vision expectations with your eye surgeon at your cataract consultation. You will be given an important decision to make. You can elect to have a traditional intraocular lens implanted during cataract surgery, or you can elect to upgrade your procedure by choosing a premium intraocular lens.
